Fading An Image Into A Background

Click here to keep your place

Ok, we are going to take this image and completely fade out the background to look like the one above!

Queen of the Forest

First step is to open an existing image or photo. You can use this one if you want by right clicking and then either choose "save as" or copy the picture, then go to your psp screen and right click and "Paste as New Image". Choose the colour you would like as your background. I chose the deep green in my image for my colour (#142409).

Ok now we are going to add a new raster layer, Layers/New Raster Layer

Adding a New Raster Layer in PSP

Then go to your Layers pallette and "drag" the layer to the bottom by right clicking on your layer 2, hold it then drag the layer underneath the 1st layer. You can also go to Layers/Arrange/Send to bottom

Make sure your bottom layer is highlighted. Select your Paint can and fill it with your original chosen colour for your image. Mine was #142409.

Now highlight your top layer (the image).

Pick the Selection tool  PSP Selection Tool  and set selection type via your Tool Options Pallette to Rectangle. Set feather = 75 and antialias =off

Tool Option Menu in PSP7

To fade the top section, drag your mouse from point A to point B to create a selection as shown below and press the [Delete] key from your keyboard.

Using feathering in Paint Shop Pro

You can press the [Delete] key as many times as you like. I used the [Delete] key 4 times.

To fade the lower section, drag your mouse from point C to point D to create a selection as shown below and press the [Delete] key. This time I hit the [Delete} key 4.

Now select a small section of the left side and do exactly the same thing. Now go to the right side and select a small section and repeat. Your image should now look something like this:

Now go to Effects ~ Noise ~ Add

Adding Noise in PSP

Select 3 and click Uniform and you will see the 'circles' of colour blend in with the picture more.

Now all that's left to do is go to File/Save As and your done!

VOILA!!!!!!!
The final image, lol! Wasn't hard at all was it!

The image below has been resized by 80% but the image at the top of this tutorial is at the original size I worked on :)

Hope you enjoyed using this tutorial as much as I had making it :)
